On a sunny Gold Coast afternoon, you can throw some picnic things into a bag and make your way to the picturesque Cascade Gardens, not far from our Broadbeach family apartments, for a peaceful family picnic overlooking the Nerang River.
Situated just a short walk back from the beach, the gardens are one of the most popular family parks on the Gold Coast and it’s not hard to see why. You can stroll through scenic areas of topical rainforest and shady palm groves, check out shags, cormorants, Australian wood ducks and other water birds at the garden’s own bird sanctuary or just lie back on one of the lush green grassy areas and soak up the sun!
The park is also home to the famous Kokoda Memorial Walk, a meandering walking trail created to celebrate the bravery of the soldiers that fought on the Kokoda Track during 1942. The walk begins at the centre of the gardens and heads south through stretches of tropical rainforest reminiscent of the Papua New Guinea jungle battleground.
Elsewhere, you’ll find a beautiful rotunda (one of the Gold Coast’s most popular outdoor wedding spots), plenty of undercover barbecue areas and scenic picnic spots overlooking the Nerang River.
The Cascade Gardens are open daily from 6am to 6pm.
